REGIONAL RACING IN INDIANA, MICHIGAN & ILLINOIS

WARREN, MacLEOD, COTTONGIM, WELCH, LIGUORI POST WINS


USAC “regional” Midget racing occurs in Indiana, Michigan and Illinois this week. Plymouth (Ind.) Speedway hosts a Wednesday night “tripleheader,” featuring the Regional, Kenyon and Midwest/UMARA Ford Focus series, while the Regional Midgets compete Saturday at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Mich. and the USAC/UMARA Ford Focuses are at Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Ill.

 

Kyle Hamilton (Regional), Dillon Welch (Kenyon), and Joe Liguori (Midwest and UMARA Focus) are the regional point leaders entering this week’s competition.

 

Alison MacLeod of Mississauga, Ont., Canada won Saturday night’s 50-lap “Salute to Mel Kenyon” USAC Regional Midget race at Grundy County. It was the seventh USAC feature win for the winningest female driver in USAC history as she passed Hamilton on lap 32 and led the final 19 laps in her East Enterprises Ford/Beast Esslinger Ford. Jeremy Warren finished second ahead of Zach Daum, Billy Hulbert III and Terry Ahern.

 

Warren, of Noblesville, Ind., sped to victory in his Warren Auto/Renner’s Body Works Beast/Chevy, leading all 30 laps of Friday night’s Regional Midget race at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway. He was trailed at the checkered flag by MacLeod, fast qualifier Brian Olson, Hamilton and Mario Marietta.

 

Tyler Cottongim of Avon, Ind. led all 25 laps to win Saturday night’s USAC Midwest/UMARA Ford Focus race at Grundy County, part of the track’s “Salute to Mel Kenyon.” Trailing Cottongim’s O’Kelly’s Restaurant Equipment/Detro Trailer Sales Stealth at the checkered flag were fast qualifier Liguori, Jimmy Simpson, Tanner Whitten and Tyler Trainor.

 

Liguori paced all 30 laps in his C & R Racing Beast to win Friday’s Midwest Ford Focus feature at the Anderson Speedway over Cottongim, Adam Wilsdon, Zach Kanizer and Katie Hargitt.

 

USAC Kenyon Midget Series point leader Welch, of Indianapolis, Ind., led all 30 laps to win Friday night’s feature race at Anderson. He and his St. Vincent Sports Performance/VCS Yahama were trailed by Dalton Armstrong, Grant Galloway, Jared Marks and Taylor Ferns. Welch was also the fastest qualifier and won his heat race.
