NATIONAL MIDGETS EYE INDIANAPOLIS, PONTOON BEACH EVENTS;

WEATHER CANCELS KOKOMO GRAND PRIX

USAC’s National Midget Series are idle until late-May, with the pavement series resuming May 25 at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, Ind. and the dirt series resuming May 31 at Tri-City Speedway in Pontoon Beach, Ill.

Last weekend’s “Kokomo Grand Prix” at Kokomo (Ind.) Speedway was washed out by weather. The O’Connor Family, race organizers at the third-mile dirt oval, has vowed to reinstitute the inaugural event in 2014 after discussions with both USAC and Powri, the co-sanctions, indicated that a suitable 2013 replacement date was unavailable.

Heavy rains on Thursday and sub-normal temperatures throughout the late week led USAC, Powri and track officials to postpone the Friday-Saturday events to Saturday-Sunday, but flooding intervened and forced the cancellation of the program.

The Kokomo events were scheduled as the opening dirt events of 2013 so the May 31 Pontoon Beach race will now serve as the first dirt race of the season.
