MADERA’S “HARVEST CLASSIC” SATURDAY;

CHICO’S “GOLD CUP” MIDGETS TO GARD

The “Harvest Classic” is on tap for the Honda USAC Western Midgets this Saturday at Madera (Calif.) Speedway, a race co-sanctioned by BCRA. Defending Western series champion Ronnie Gardner sits atop the standings with a 32-point cushion over Trey Marcham while Chad Nichols is the leader in the Honda Western pavement Midgets.

Brian Gard of Kelseyville, Calif. won Thursday night’s 30-lap “Gold Cup Race of Champions” Honda USAC Western Midget race at Silver Dollar Speedway in Chico, Calif., leading the final 16 laps in his Storcks Garage/Cliff Marden Snap-On Tools Ellis/Chevy. Gard took the lead from Western Midget point leader Trey Marcham on lap 15. Marcham took second at the checkered flag ahead of Shane Golobic, Richard Vander Weerd and Geoff Ensign. The race was also co-sanctioned by BCRA.

Darin Snider, Michael Gerhardt and Cody Gerhardt each have USAC feature wins this season at Madera. Jarid Blondel currently ranks second in the pavement points, 24 behind leader Nichols entering Saturday’s race.
