VOTE FOR THE FINAL FOUR USAC HOF MEMBERS

VOTE FOR THE FINAL FOUR USAC HOF MEMBERS IS ON YOU

The initial eight inductees for the USAC Hall of Fame Class of 2017 have already been announced, but now is your chance to make your voice heard and your vote count as the final four members of the class will be decided by you, the fan.

Visit https://www.poll-maker.com/poll1097177x8214E2Df-46 and vote for up to four members who you feel deserve to be in the USAC Hall of Fame.

Voting is open until Wednesday, July 5.  After tabulating each of the votes, the final four inductees will be announced.  They will join previously-announced Class of 2017 inductees Donald Davidson, Frank DelRoy, Gene Hartley, Steve Lewis, Howard Linne, Robbie Stanley, Steve Stapp and Johnny Thomson.

 

In alphabetical order, the remaining nominees are:

 

BOB EAST: Car owner whose cars dominated USAC racing for years and comprised the bulk of Silver Crown, Sprint and Midget chassis.

 

BOB ESTES: Recorded 19 USAC National Sprint wins in the 1950s as a car owner with drivers Pat O’Connor and Don Branson.

 

PAUL GOLDSMITH: Member of the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America and Motorcycle Hall of Fame – Oldest living veteran of the Indy 500. 1961 USAC Stock Car Champion.

 

CHUCK GURNEY: Won 1985 USAC National Supermodified and 1989 USAC Silver Crown titles. Winner of 14 USAC Silver Crown races.

 

SAM HANKS: 1957 Indianapolis 500 winner and served as a race official for USAC at the Indianapolis 500 after retirement as a driver.

 

JOE LEONARD: 1971 and 1972 USAC National Driving Champion. Famed motorcycle racer. 9-time Indianapolis 500 vet, finished 3rd twice.

 

BILL LIPKEY: Long time USAC race organizer at Fort Wayne and Kokomo, Ind. He organized USAC’s inaugural race, a Midget race Jan. 8, 1956 at Fort Wayne.

 

JUD PHILLIPS: Scored eight USAC National Sprint wins as a car owner and was USAC’s 1964 National Sprint Car Owner Champion.

 

JIM RATHMANN: Winner of the 1960 Indianapolis 500 and the 1958 “Race of Two Worlds” at the Monza, Italy Autodrome.

 

LLOYD RUBY: Maybe the greatest Indianapolis 500 driver who never won it. Winner of distance road races at Sebring and Daytona. 18 Indy starts with a best finish of 3rd in 1964.

 

TROY RUTTMAN: 1952 Indianapolis 500 winner and legendary Sprint racer. Won the Short Track Stock Car title in USAC’s first year of 1956.

 

KEN SCHRADER: 1982 Silver Crown and 1983 Sprint Car Champion. 21 career USAC National Midget, 6 Silver Crown and 4 National Sprint Car victories.

 

BOB & GENE SHANNON: Long time USAC Midget car owners. 45 National Midget feature wins and the 1972 USAC National Midget title.

 

JIMMY SILLS: First three-time USAC Silver Crown Champion (1990, 1994 and 1996) and 12 victories in Silver Crown series.

 

BILL VUKOVICH, JR.: 1973 Indianapolis 500 runner-up. Winner in all three USAC National series. Son of 1953-54 Indy winner Bill Vukovich and father of 1988 Indy 500 Rookie of the year Billy Vukovich III.

 

JOHN ZINK: Long time car owner. Won the 1955 and 1956 Indianapolis 500s with Bob Sweikert and Pat Flaherty, the last AAA and first USAC “500s.”
