STEWART CHASING 6R FOR ALL-TIME SILVER CROWN LEAD

STEWART CHASING 6R FOR ALL-TIME SILVER CROWN LEAD

Tony Stewart Racing and Team 6R Motorsports are locked in a battle for the all-time lead in victories in USAC’s Silver Crown Championship Series entering this weekend’s Rosemont Copper “Copper on Dirt” at USA Raceway in Tucson, Ariz.

Stewart owns 22 series wins as a car owner, while Team 6R’s Daryl Guiducci claims 23 wins. Ironically both started their success in Arizona! Team 6R’s first Silver Crown win came at Phoenix International Raceway in 1992 with driver Jim Keeker. Stewart’s first Silver Crown win as an owner came eight years later at the same track, with driver Jason Leffler.

Brian Tyler and brothers Kody and Tanner Swanson will compete in Team 6R cars at Tucson, while Levi Jones and Bryan Clauson will be in Stewart entries. Tyler has 16 career series wins, 11 in Team 6R cars.

Tyler posted Team 6R’s last series wins, scoring victories at Richmond, Va. and Oswego, N.Y. last year. The last Stewart Silver Crown win came with Ricky Stenhouse Jr. at the wheel at Springfield, Ill. in 2007.

Team 6R’s winners have included Tyler (11), Hewitt (8), Dave Steele (2) and Keeker (2). Stewart’s wins have come with J.J. Yeley (6), Jay Drake (6), Steele (4), Josh Wise (2), Leffler (2), Kasey Kahne (1) and Stenhouse.

Team 6R has fared better on the dirt, with 13 wins, compared to Stewart’s eight.

Preliminaries for this weekend’s “tripleheader,” also featuring the USAC Amsoil National and CRA Sprint cars and the USAC Mopar National and Western Midgets are slated Friday, with semis and feature events on Saturday. The 50-lap Silver Crown race follows a 30-lapper for the Midgets and a 40-lapper for the Sprints.

Former “Copper on Dirt” Silver Crown champs are Ricky Stenhouse Jr., Jerry Coons Jr. and Bud Kaeding.
