BILL GARDNER SPRINTACULAR USAC/MSCS RACE FORMATS

BILL GARDNER SPRINTACULAR USAC/MSCS RACE FORMATS

Putnamville, Indiana (July 2, 2020)………This weekend’s Bill Gardner Sprintacular two-night doubleheader co-sanctioned by the USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship and the Midwest Sprint Car Series at Lincoln Park Speedway will utilize both series’ formats on each night of the event, Friday and Saturday night, July 3-4.

The Friday, July 3 event will be a full-points event for MSCS and will award 50 appearance points to all competing licensed USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car drivers and teams toward the series championship standings.  This event will utilize the MSCS format.

The Saturday, July 4 event will be a full points race for both the USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Cars and the MSCS Sprints.  USAC’s format of single car qualifying, with the top-four transferring from each heat race and top-six from the semi-feature to seed the feature starting lineup, will be used.

On Friday, adult general admission tickets are $25 while children age 10 and under are free.  Pit admission is $30.  The pits open at 3pm ET with the front gate opening at 4:30pm and hot laps at 6:30pm.  Modifieds, Super Stocks and Bombers are also racing in the event.

On Saturday, adult general admission tickets are $25 while children age 10 and under are free.  Pit admission is $35.  The pits open at 3pm ET with the front gate opening at 4:30pm and hot laps at 6pm.  The USAC Midwest Regional Midgets join the USAC Midwest Thunder SpeeD2 Midgets and Race Savers 305 Winged Sprints on the event card.

MIDWEST SPRINT CAR SERIES FORMAT – FRIDAY, JULY 3 AT LINCOLN PARK SPEEDWAY

 

QUALIFYING:

Drivers will qualify their cars in group sessions, 4 laps each. The groups will consist of the cars as divided into heat races based on the pill draw. Your best lap of the session will be your qualifying time.

 

HEAT RACES:

In all heat races, the top-4 qualifiers will be inverted in the lineup with the remainder of the field starting straight up. Heat winners will redraw for starting positions in the feature event.

(If 49 cars or more) 6 heat races. Top-3 finishers transfer to the feature. 4th and 5th place finishers will go to the semi-feature. 6th and 7th place finishers will go to the C-Main. 8th place finishers on back will go to the D-Main.

(If 41-48 cars) 5 heat races.  Top-3 finishers transfer to the feature. 4th, 5th & 6th place finishers will go to the semi-feature. 7th, 8th, 9th & 10th place finishers will go to the C-Main.

 

D-MAIN:

10 laps. Top-6 finishers transfer to the C-Main.

 

C-MAIN:

(If 49 cars or more) 10 laps. Top-6 finishers transfer to the semi-feature.

(If 41-48 cars) 10 laps. Top-5 finishers transfer to the semi-feature.

 

SEMI:

(If 49 cars or more) 12 laps. Top-4 finishers transfer to the feature.

(If 41-48 cars) 12 laps. Top-7 finishers transfer to the feature.

 

FEATURE:

30 laps. 22 cars start. Up to 2 provisional starters from both MSCS and USAC - 26 possible starters.

USAC AMSOIL NATIONAL SPRINT CAR FORMAT – SATURDAY, JULY 4, 2020

Formats may be altered from base formats listed here at the discretion of the chief steward.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Qualifying is two (2) laps to be run consecutively with the fastest lap counting as the official qualifying time.

(IF MORE THAN 36 CARS) Split Qualifying. Cars in flight one qualify into the first two heat races, while cars in flight two fill the starting positions in the last two heat races.

(IF MORE THAN 50 CARS) Split Qualifying. Top-24 fastest qualifiers in each flight are locked into the heat races (12 cars in each heat). Cars in flight one qualify into the first two heat races, while cars in flight two fill the starting positions in the last two heat races.

 

HEAT RACES

10 laps (8 laps on tracks 3/8-mile in distance or longer)

(IF SPLIT QUALIFYING IS USED) Cars in flight one qualify into the first two heat races, while cars in flight two fill the starting positions of the last two heat races.  Top-6 fastest qualifying cars in each flight are inverted in each heat race. The fastest car in each heat starts 6th, the second fastest car starts 5th and so on.  For the 4th row on back, cars will line up straight up, based on their qualifying times.

Cars finishing in positions 1-4 will transfer to the feature event if four heats are held. Cars finishing 1-5 will transfer if three heats are held.

Cars finishing in positions 5th on back will start in the semi-feature event if 4 heats are held. Cars finishing 6th on back will start in the semi-feature event if 3 heats are held.

 

D-MAIN

(IF MORE THAN 50 CARS) The 29th fastest qualifying car, and on back through the balance of the field, that did not transfer through the heat races will line up straight-up in the D-Main. 10 laps. Top-4 finishers will start in the last two rows of the C-Main based on their finishing order in the D-Main.

 

C-MAIN:

(IF MORE THAN 36 CARS) The 15th through 28th fastest cars in qualifying that did not transfer through the heat races will line up straight-up in the C-Main.  10 laps. Top-4 finishers will start in the last two rows of the semi-feature based on their finishing order in the C-Main.

 

SEMI-FEATURE:

The 14 fastest cars in qualifying that did not transfer through the heat races will line up straight-up in the semi-feature event. 12 laps. Finishers 1-6 earn a spot in the feature event if 4 heats were held. Finishers 1-7 earn a spot in the feature event if 3 heats were held.

 

FEATURE:

Starting positions determined by qualifying time, 6 fastest at the front, with the 6 fastest qualifiers who transferred through their heat races inverted by their qualifying time in the first three rows, positions 1-6.  If a heat race winner is not in the top-6 inversion, that driver will line up directly behind the six-car invert, based on their qualifying time, followed by the balance of the field based on qualifying time. 22 starting cars (not including earned provisionals).
