Richmond, VA.

Jerry Coons Jr. of Tucson, Ariz. gave his Hoffman Auto Racing Team a USAC record 70th National Sprint Car feature victory Friday night at Richmond International Raceway. Coons passed early leader Shane Hmiel on lap 29, then resumed the lead when the second 30-lap segment began and led the rest of the way in his Kroger/Tide, Bounty/Pringles Beast/Mopar. Tracy Hines finished second ahead of Damion Gardner, Levi Jones and Mike Murgoitio. Hmiel led the first 28 laps of the race but failed to finish the race due to mechanical problems.
