COONS SNATCHES SPRINT POINT LEAD FROM JONES;
BACON SIZZLES IN "WINCHESTER OLDTIMERS" 30-LAPPER

Jerry Coons Jr. of Tucson, Ariz. is the new leader in the USAC National Sprint Car Series after finishing eighth in Sunday's "Winchester Oldtimers Weekend" 30-lap race at the Winchester (Ind.) Speedway. Coons has a minute two-point lead over defending two-time series titlist Levi Jones, who finished 12th at Winchester. The two will resume their torrid championship duel October 30-31 and November 1 in the Budweiser Oval Nationals" at the Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway.

Brady Bacon of Broken Arrow, Okla. earned his first series triumph in Sunday afternoon's Winchester race. Bacon caught Chris Windom in turn three on the 11th lap and led the final 20 laps to put his Kasey Kahne Racing Mopar/Team ASE Beast/Speedway Mopar in victory lane.

Sunday's victory was the first in five USAC Sprint races at Winchester for a car NOT fielded by car owner Keith Kunz, whose drivers Darren Hagen and Cole Whitt finished second and sixth. Hagen had won the last two races at Winchester and was followed at the checkered flag by Jacob Wilson, Windom and Tracy Hines.
