FRIDAY ELDORA SPRINTS CANCELED

RAIN, WET GROUNDS FORCE CANCELATION

ROSSBURG, OH (April 10) – As predicted, persistent rains and cooler temperatures moved into  southwestern Ohio early Friday morning, dumping more than ¼  inch of rain.   With more showers forecasted for later in the day, Eldora Speedway officials, in conjunction with USAC (United States Auto Club) opted to cancel day number one of the weekend’s Coca-Cola Spring Classic doubleheader.   Saturday’s portion is still on schedule, with a much better weather forecast.

Saturday’s action will feature the non-winged USAC National Sprint Cars in the Branson/Larson Classic, along with the UMP (United Midwestern Promoters) Modifieds, and a race time of 7:30 PM.

With an off-weekend from his rigorous NASCAR Sprint Cup schedule, Eldora owner and two-time NASCAR champion, Tony Stewart viewed the facility Friday morning and agreed, “we want to give USAC drivers and fans the best track possible.   The overnight rains may have put a damper on things for Friday, but all systems are go and our staff is up the challenge of running off a swift show Saturday night.    USAC Sprints are always exciting at Eldora and we are anxious to showcase them.”

Aware of the disappointment that accompanies any rain cancellation, Stewart was quick to point out that the advertised racing fan club discounts for Friday will be carried over until Saturday, and as an added bonus, anyone purchasing a general admission ticket will be admitted to a pre-race pit tour from 3:30 – 4:30.   This will serve as an excellent opportunity for the fans to get a close up look of the new paint schemes and become familiar with driver/owner changes for 2009.

Stewart has held firm on his general admission pricing for 2009 and the Saturday contest will remain at $18 for adults, with special pricing for children.   The gates will open at 3:30, with the hot laps at 6:00.   The Eldora Speedway staff and USAC officials have pledged their concern for a quick show on Saturday night and will work diligently to get the fans in and out as quick as possible.
