UTAH'S 2ND CENTURY BEGINS SATURDAY AT RMR

UTAH’S 2ND CENTURY BEGINS SATURDAY AT RMR

USAC has conducted an even 100 races in the state of Utah and the second century begins Saturday with the debut of the 2009 USAC Young Automotive Rocky Mountain Sprint Car Series at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City.

JoJo Helberg is the defending champion of the series and his 2009 season opened last Saturday night with a second-place finish behind Tanner Swanson in the Western Sprint Car series opener at Roseville, Calif.

Helberg won twice at RMR last year on his way to the title, but he’ll have to contend with 2007 series champion Ryan Burdett and others Saturday. Burdett won last year’s opener and added two other wins during the year.

The first 100 Utah USAC races produced 34 different winners, with Jimmy Wysong leading the way with 16 wins. Dave Fitzgerald won 13 times, while two-time Rocky Mountain Sprint champ Jimmy Waters has a dozen wins to his credit. Burdett ranks fourth with six wins.
