DEFENDING CHAMP SPENCER SHOULD RISE IN CRA STANDINGS

AFTER THIS SATURDAY’S RACE AT PERRIS AUTO SPEEDWAY

Defending two-time Amsoil USAC/CRA Sprint Car Champion Mike Spencer of Temecula, Calif. should improve his eighth-place ranking in the 2010 points after Saturday night’s race at the Perris (Calif.) Auto Speedway.

Spencer is the highest ranking CRA “regular” in the points after the combined National/CRA events in February and is only 54 points behind leader Damion Gardner.

Spencer has nine career wins at the half-mile dirt oval and trails only Gardner (23), Tony Jones (19) and Cory Kruseman (14) in the all-time USAC/CRA list at the PAS.

Gardner won two of the first three USAC/CRA races this year, putting the 2005 champion atop the points going into this Saturday’s race. One of Gardner’s victories came in the 2010 Perris opener February 28.

This Saturday’s event kicks off the track’s 2010 Power of Purple fund raising campaign for the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life.
