Danny Faria Jr. remains atop the USAC West Coast Sprint standings as the series eyes a July 25 date at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif. R.J. Johnson continues as the USAC Southwest Sprint Car point leader with the next series race July 10 at El Paso, Texas, the first of two USAC Southwest vs. NMMRA (New Mexico Motor Racing Association) “Border Tour” races.

Faria has a 121-point lead over Richard Vander Weerd, who won last Saturday night’s 30-lapper at Hanford, Calif. while Johnson’s lead over Charles Davis Jr. stands at 77 points after he won Saturday night’s “Hot Summer Nights” feature at Tucson, Ariz. 

Richard Vander Weerd of Visalia, Calif. scored a last-lap victory at Hanford’s Keller Auto Speedway at Kings Fairgrounds, He slid by Faria in his Vander Weerd Construction/Battery Worx Maxim/Shark to post the win over Faria, Brody Roa, Spencer and Trey Marcham. Faria was the fastest qualifier.’

Johnson, of Phoenix, Ariz., padded his Southwest lead with another feature win at USA Raceway in Tucson. He passed Mike Martin on the 20th lap of the “Hot Summer Nights” race and led the final 11 laps in his Michaels entry. Martin took second at the checkered flag ahead of Josh Pelkey, Matt Rossi and Josh Shipley.
