10TH ANNUAL EASTERN STORM BEGINS TUESDAY

10TH ANNUAL EASTERN STORM BEGINS TUESDAY

The 10th annual “Eastern Storm” for USAC’s AMSOIL Sprint Car National Championship opens Tuesday with the annual “Jesse Hockett Classic” at Grandview Speedway in Bechtelsville, Pennsylvania. It kicks off a five-venue string of races to determine the 2016 champion.

Former series champion Brady Bacon leads the contingent of drivers who will challenge this week’s tracks as he tries to extend the all-time record of USAC race victories for his car owner, Dynamics, Inc.

Wednesday’s race unfolds at Lincoln Speedway in Abbottstown, Pa. where a special “non-points” feature will follow the points race, creating a unique “doubleheader” for race fans. On Thursday, the action shifts to New Egypt Speedway in New Jersey before taking a night off for Friday’s “Horn-Schindler Memorial” USAC Silver Crown race at Williams Grove, Pa.

On Saturday “Eastern Storm” resumes at Port Royal (Pa.) Speedway and Sunday’s closer is at Susquehanna Speedway in York Haven, Pa.

Defending USAC AMSOIL Sprint Car National Champion Robert Ballou of Rocklin, Calif. hopes to pick up where he left off last year when he claimed the “Eastern Storm” crown undefeated, sweeping the races at New Egypt, Port Royal and Susquehanna.

Each of the last six years have the seen the “Eastern Storm” go on to win that’s season’s USAC National Sprint Car title. Ballou (2015), Bacon (2014), Bryan Clauson (2012 and 2013) and Levi Jones (2010 and 2011).  Jones also won the first “Eastern Storm” title in 2007 while Cole Whitt won it in back-to-back years in 2008 and 2009.

Jones leads in terms of all-time “Eastern Storm” wins with six, while Whitt, Clauson and Ballou each have three.
