Just days before running the Indy 500, Coons’ new teammate at RW Motorsports, Bryan Clauson of Noblesville, Indiana, is scheduled to race in his third “Hoosier Hundred.” Clauson has been teammates the past two seasons with Jones.

USAC .25 Drivers Kick-off Hall of Fame Weekend by Honoring Robbie Stanley

USAC Mopar .25 Midget Series drivers will be part of history this weekend, as they take to the track at the Mini Indy Speedway in Indianapolis, Ind., to honor three-time USAC National Sprint Car Series Champion Robbie Stanley, as well as to help kick-off the Inaugural USAC Hall of Fame Weekend.

Stanley, who was inducted into the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame in 2000, won his first National Championship in a Quarter Midget in 1980, at Waterford Speedway, in Michigan. He quickly rose to prominence by winning his first Sprint Car race at the legendary Winchester Speedway in Indiana. He won the All Star Circuit of Champions title in 1989. Stanley’s USAC National Sprint Car Series championships came in 1991, 1992, and 1993. Since 1996, Mini Indy, located on the grounds of the Indiana State Fairgrounds, has hosted the Robbie Stanley Memorial for Quarter Midget drivers.

Veteran open wheel driver, Ed Carpenter, who earned his first INDYCar victory in 2011 at Kentucky Speedway, won the first Robbie Stanley Memorial in 1996. USAC drivers that have also hoisted the coveted Robbie Stanley Title include: Shane Hollingsworth (1997), Billy Wease (1998), Tyler Nuckles (2003), Andy Nock (2004), and Canadian Cayden Lapcevich (2011).

“It’s very special, after all of these years, to keep our son Robbie’s memory alive,” said Rita Stanley. “We are amazed that people are so willing to remember him and his accomplishments. It’s truly an honor that we feel each and every time the Mini Indy Club holds the Robbie Stanley Memorial. We have met so many families and have celebrated the wins honoring our son. These winning drivers have become part of our racing family.”

The Heavy ‘AA event has long celebrated the accomplishments of Robbie Stanley as that was his favorite Quarter Midget class. Winners have celebrated with the Stanley family: Ron, Rita, Ronda, Ryan and Sherri and grandchildren Leah, Katlyn, Karly and C.J.

The Robbie Stanley Memorial helps open the Inaugural Hall of Fame Weekend for the United States Auto Club. Debuting this year, 8 honorees were selected by a committee of respected motorsports professionals with extensive USAC history. Four honorees were chosen through an online vote conducted via social media channels. Maintaining the integrity of USAC’s rich history and honoring the founding members and guiding lights of the organization, the inaugural class will be inducted during ceremonies scheduled May 20, at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Two very notable names – Foyt and Andretti – may be most familiar to Quarter Midget families.

A.J. Foyt owns more USAC national feature victories than anyone in history – 154 – spanning a variety of disciplines. Foyt is recognized as one of the best, if not the best, driver in American motor racing history. The Texan’s accomplishments in some 40 years of competition are legendary, and he holds the record for winning 11 USAC championships.

Mario Andretti won the 1978 Formula One World title, four Indy Car crowns (three under USAC sanction) and an IROC title. He is a member of the International Motorsports Hall of Fame, the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and the Motorsports Hall of Fame of America.

“We are excited to be part of the Inaugural Hall of Fame Weekend with the USAC Family,” said James Spink, Developmental Director. Every Quarter Midget driver who experiences this event will remember it for years to come.”

Trailer Parking begins Thursday, May 17 at 3 p.m. Sign-in opens at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 18 with practice for all divisions from 5–8 p.m. This event also serves as the First Round of the Mid-West Thunder 2012 Series. Saturday heats and main events will run for the Honda and Rookie classes only. The Robbie Stanley Memorial – Heavy ‘AA Class will run on Sunday along with Briggs and other Deco classes.

Quarter Midget drivers and their families are invited to the 100-lap “Hall of Fame” Classic for the Traxxas Silver Crown Series at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis, on Saturday night. All registered drivers will be admitted Free of Charge.

CLAUSON FINDING SPEED QUICKLY AT IMS

One year ago, Noblesville, Indiana’s Bryan Clauson was getting into a groove while defending his championships in both the Mopar National Midgets and the National Driver’s Championship. He was heading into an important weekend that featured both Sprint Car and Midget races, including the Hut Hundred he’d won the year before.

This year is slightly different.

Clauson opened up a monumental month of May at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway by passing Rookie Orientation and posting the second fastest speed on opening day of practice for the Indianapolis 500.

“If you woulda told me that we were gonna come out here the first few days and be at the top of the speed charts, I probably would have told you that you were crazy,” Clauson said of Saturday’s personal best lap at 221.173 miles per hour.

In addition to his full season in USAC racing last year, Clauson also competed in the Firestone Indy Lights program on the ovals as a result of his 2010 USAC National Driver’s Championship. With a second straight NDC title in his pocket, Clauson is looking to take full advantage of the opportunity presented by the Indy Car scholarship attached to that championship.

“I think when Randy (Bernard) started this, this is kinda what he had dreamt up. Somehow, somebody, win it two years in a row and be put in this position. That experience last year was huge, and hopefully we can continue this run at the top of the charts for another couple weeks and make everybody on the USAC side proud,” Clauson said.

The USAC racing calendar rolls on, and while Clauson focuses on qualifying into the field of 33, the AMSOIL National Sprint Car Series will take to the red clay of Bloomington Speedway on Friday. After Pole Day ends, Clauson will watch as his RW Motorsports teammates take on the Traxxas Silver Crown Series “Hall of Fame Classic” at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis.

Clauson even plans to take to the dirt himself in the few days leading up the “Greatest Spectacle in Racing.” After his team’s sprint car runs the “Tony Hulman Classic” at the Terre Haute Action Track on Thursday, May 24th with driver Brady Short, Clauson will return to the seat for the famed “Hoosier Hundred” on Friday, May 25th at the Indiana State Fairgrounds. The busy week of USAC racing ends with the Mopar National Midget Series and the annual “Night Before the 500” back at Lucas Oil Raceway.

While USAC competitors across the board will be focused on some of the most important events on their own racing calendar that week, all eyes will be affixed to Clauson’s #39 as he represents his brethren on racing’s largest scale.

“We are so proud of what Bryan has already done at the Speedway and look forward to what the rest of the month brings for him,” said USAC President Kevin Miller, adding, “He can count on having the entire USAC community standing beside him along the way.”

Nemire Poised to Tackle USAC Ignite Ethanol Midgets

Toledo, Oh - Most twelve-year old children are focused on junior high school, the latest video game platform, or updating their Facebook status. While those activities may play a role in Austin Nemire’s daily routine, he’s also ready to leap into the deep end of the motorsports pool – driving a USAC Ignite Ethanol Midget as part of 1996 Indianapolis 500 winner Ron Hemelgarn’s driver development program.

Young Nemire, the grandson of former USAC campaigner Jerry Nemire, started his racing career at the tender age of six in 2005. He quickly moved through the quarter-midget ranks, both locally at the Lucas County Recreation Center in Maumee, Ohio and regionally. Over the past six years he’s collected an impressive 130 feature wins and eight championships in the USAC .25 Midget division throughout a variety of classes.

That success has him ready to vault into full-sized midgets, the first step in what he and his racing family hope is a successful climb up the motorsports ladder.

“I have a lot of people whose footsteps I’d like to follow,” Nemire said. “My first inspiration was my grandpa. I’ve seen him race, seen a lot of pictures and some videos and of course heard a lot of his old racing stories. But there are a lot of other drivers that have come out of our area that have gone on to the top of the motorsports world, guys like Sam Hornish and Terry Cook, that I’ve also been motivated by. And anyone who’s come up in open wheel racing wants to follow in Tony Stewart’s and Ryan Newman’s footsteps. Ron has also worked with Carl Edwards over the years and we all know the success he's had. They definitely set the bar that all of us are trying to reach. Hopefully we can have some success and take the next step into an ARCA ride a few years down the line.”

While twelve may seem young to many, to Austin’s father Kenny Nemire the time was right for Austin to take the next step in his development.

“Austin raced against kids with more experience than him from a very early age and was able to race with them and beat them almost immediately,” he said. “Moving him up to the USAC Ignite Ethanol Midget division is the next logical step in his development. It’s a totally new experience for him. He has to learn the full-sized cars, the drivers, the tracks and do it all in a short period of time. A lot of people might think he’s being rushed but he’s really accomplished all he can in the quarter midgets and we’re ready to take on the next challenge.”

Austin is ready to take on that challenge, and ready to impress a sponsor and benefactor that has seen the pinnacle of the sport.

“There’s a lot of great racetracks on the schedule like Columbus, Kil-Kare, Kalamazoo, Grundy County, and Lorain County,” Nemire said. “We have a lot to learn and there’s a lot we want to accomplish. The biggest thing is we want to make Ron proud of us. He’s worked with some of the greatest drivers in the sport and to have the chance to work with us puts on a lot of pressure. But the best thing is he told me to just go out, learn, and have fun. All he wants us to do is get better from week to week, which is exactly what we’re looking to do too.”

Being a part of the Hemelgarn Racing development program is sure to open some eyes, from competitors, owners, and possibly potential sponsors.

“Working with Ron definitely gives us some credibility,” Nemire said. “We’re proud to carry his traditional colors, but Grandpa was really happy to see that 91 turned upside down is 16. So even though we’re in the purple and yellow 91 we have that link to his old Sweet 16. Hopefully we run as well as we expect we’re going to and we can find some additional sponsors who want to race their way to the top with us.”

Dave Calderwood, a long-time car owner and supporter of cars in all three National series, passed away at home in Bakersfield, California on Saturday,
April 28th after an extended illness.

Calderwood’s cars were iconic in winning races on both the Midget & Silver Crown circuits in the 1990s. His familiar look on a race car returned in
2010 when Tracy Hines, who had driven for Calderwood in the past, started campaigning the #4 Sprint Car with Calderwood and his company, MP Environmental
Services. Hines has now tallied four wins for the team in this span, including on April 21st at the famed Eldora Speedway.

Calderwood was known as one of the best and most likeable car owners in USAC while employing some of the most famous names in the sport, including
Kenny Irwin, Jr., Jimmy Sills, Ryan Newman, and Jeff Gordon, along with Hines.

HINES ENDS EMOTIONAL WEEKEND WITH DODGE CITY SCORE

Dodge City, Kansas.……After missing Friday’s events at Dodge City Raceway Park in Kansas to attend the funeral of his car owner and long-time supporter
Dave Calderwood, Tracy Hines arrived in time to notch the USAC Mopar National Midget Series victory on Saturday in his Parker Machinery – Turbine’s
        Incorporated #24 Spike/Toyota.

“It was just a good finish to a bad week. We lost Dave Calderwood this week, who has been on all my cars and owns my sprint cars, so it’s good to put
MP Environmental Services back in victory lane, along with our other sponsors, including Support Esophagus Cancer. The car was extremely fast all
night. We’re gonna carry on the tradition with the Calderwoods, and show we can still win races,” said the recently-turned 40-year old from New Castle,
        Indiana.

Brad Kuhn jumped to the lead early, but Hines came calling quickly after flashing by Chris Windom for second. On lap eight, Hines moved under Kuhn to
take a lead he would never relinquish in a 30-lap contest that went green-to-checker. While Hines was slicing through traffic, 13th-starting Kyle
Larson was finding a line to his liking. In the waning stages, Larson moved his Keith Kunz Motorsports – Toyota TRD #71 Bullet/Speedway Toyota into the
runner-up spot and shortened Hines’ lead, but ran out of time to put any serious pressure on the winner.

“We needed a yellow there when we got to fourth or fifth, and we might have had a shot. I didn’t feel very good today or early in the feature, really,
but as the race went on, I found a couple different lines I could use – especially the diamond off turn two. I kinda picked off some cars down low and
got to second, which is good,” Larson said.

Kuhn ended up third in the RW Motorsports – Rotondo Weirich #17 Beast/Fontana after seeing a bottom line develop for the top-two finishers.

“Running the top – that’s just our spot and we live and die by it. We were just a little tight up there, and Tracy found something down low. A couple
cars just made it difficult at the end, and Kyle was in the catbird seat to take second,” Kuhn said.

Bobby East finished fourth in the Klatt Enterprises – East Enterprises #4 Beast/Chevy. Darren Hagen rounded out the top-five in the RFMS Racing –
        Liberty Village #3 DRC/Esslinger.

LARSON DUELS TO DODGE CITY WIN

Dodge City, Kansas.……Kyle Larson of Elk Grove, California raced his way to the lead early in Friday’s 30-lap Mopar National Midget Main Event and held
on through multiple caution periods late in the race to take his first USAC victory of the season. Levi Jones held the point early before Larson fought
his way to the front in a torrid battle, taking the lead on lap 7 and holding on throughout despite constant pressure.

“I got a really good start and felt good enough to get by Levi, but it was just a battle with him and (Darren) Hagen early in the race. After it
started to take rubber in places, I just had to be smart and get where I needed to be to hold off the guys who were coming towards the end,” Larson
said of his march to victory in the Keith Kunz Motorsports – Toyota TRD #71 Bullet/Speedway Toyota.

Larson’s late-race foes included his teammate, Bryan Clauson, who started 12th. After ascending to the top-five in the first few laps, Clauson made his
way to the top-two before the team cars set sail on a long green-flag run, building an eight-second lead. With a few late cautions, Brad Kuhn picked
off second in the waning laps aboard his RW Motorsports – Rotondo Weirich #17 Beast/Fontana.

“What really concerned me was our tire with those guys flying up through there sideways. I just stayed up top and picked off some spots through
traffic, trying not to abuse it too much. Then, we caught a yellow late and took a shot at Bryan…tried to run with Kyle but he was just too good,” Kuhn
said of his run from row seven.

Clauson held on for third in the Keith Kunz Motorsports/Curb-Agajanian – Toyota TRD #67 Bullet/Speedway Toyota.

“It was important to get a good start with those guys starting up front. Keith and everybody gave me a great car, but we just couldn’t quite find
enough to get by him late in the race. He was probably a little bit quicker, but I threw everything I had at him. It was still a great rebound from
where we were after qualifying,” Clauson said.

Levi Roberts crossed fourth but was repositioned to the tail after failing to make weight after the race. Chris Windom took the fourth spot in his
        Wilke-Pak – Speedway Motors #11 Spike/Stanton Toyota ahead of early leader Jones in his 5IVE-6IX, Inc. – 3 Wide Networks #56 Beast/Esslinger.
