USAC/WoO COMBOS MAY 8-9 AT ELDORA

USAC/WoO COMBOS MAY 8-9 AT ELDORA;

DARLAND, BALLOU SCORE IN AMERICA’S HEARTLAND; McCOOL WET

Dave Darland of Lincoln, Ind. hopes to record a significant USAC victory May 8 or 9 when the AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Cars join the World of Outlaws for what promises to be the “Mother of All Sprint Car Weekends” at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio. Both series will compete both nights at the legendary half-mile oval in what marks the first-ever appearance for both on the same program.

Darland scored his 99th USAC National win and 55th in the AMSOIL series last Friday at Eagle, Neb. and he will try to join A.J. Foyt, Rich Vogler and Mel Kenyon as the only USAC drivers ever to reach the century mark in terms of USAC National wins. Foyt has 154, Vogler earned 134 and Kenyon stands at 111.

Darland caught Chris Windom on lap 27 at Eagle and led the final four laps for the win in the Phillips/Curb-Agajanian Customized Service Trucks/Trench Shoring DRC/Foxco. Windom took second ahead of Tracy Hines, Kevin Thomas Jr. and Brady Bacon.

Robert Ballou of Rocklin, Calif. scored a sensational victory in Sunday night’s 30-lap “Weld Racing Spring Classic” at Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kans. Piloting the MPHG Promotions/Blakesley’s Auto Maxim/Ott, Ballou was in a class by himself after passing Tracy Hines on lap eight. He finished with a comfortable lead over Chase Stockon as Bacon took third ahead of Darland and Thomas. The win was Ballou’s third this season. Darland swept the two ProSource fast qualifying awards.

Saturday night’s scheduled race at Junction Motor Speedway in McCool Junction, Neb. was cancelled due to rain and wet grounds.
