SPRINTS EYE AMSOIL SPEEDWAY AUGUST 7;
ROBERT BALLOU TAKES “INDIANA SPRINT WEEK” TITLE;
FARNEY, BACON, SHORT & RAIN PREVAIL IN ISW FINALES
AMSOIL Speedway awaits the AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Cars as their next outing is August 7 at the Superior, Wisc. venue.
Robert Ballou of Rocklin, Calif. will lead the series to that next race after emerging from the 28th “Indiana Sprint Week” with the championship and a 40-point margin in the new standings over Chase Stockon.
Ballou posted a pair of seconds, a pair of fourths and a sixth in the five completed races as ISW encountered rain interruptions twice. Last Friday’s race at Bloomington Speedway was the latest casualty as rains came after the completion of the semi.
Ballou, as the champion car owner, also earned the specially-crafted maple rocking chair donated by long-time USAC supporter John Youngs. The chair was presented at the completion of Saturday night’s finale at Haubstadt, Ind.
Ballou entered Saturday’s finale at Tri-State Speedway with a three-point deficit to Brady Bacon, but his fourth-place finish, coupled with Bacon’s 11th-place, resulted in the 17-point margin of victory.
Brady Short of Bedford, Ind. won Saturday’s Haubstadt finale in the Sipes Body & Glass/Indiana Stone Works Maxim/Spec. Kevin Thomas Jr. led five laps, but yielded to Short on lap 22 and finished second ahead of Chris Windom, Ballou and Stockon.
Defending series champ Bacon, of Broken Arrow, Okla., won Thursday’s 30-lapper at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, leading all but one lap in his Mean Green/Lykins Oil Triple X/Williams Mopar. Thomas was second ahead of Jerry Coons Jr., Hunter Schuerenberg and Short.
Aaron Farney of Brookston, Ind. led all 30 laps in a spectacular inaugural USAC victory in Wednesday’s “Don Smith Classic” at the Terre Haute Action Track. He and his Brettnacher Farms/DCT Racing Maxim/Ott were trailed by Ballou, Dave Darland, Chad Boespflug and Stockon.
ProSource fast qualifiers last week included Mitch Wissmiller (Terre Haute), Schuerenberg (Putnamville), Bacon (Bloomington) and Justin Grant (Haubstadt). B & W Auto Mart Hard Chargers were Shane Cottle (Terre Haute), Brady Short (Putnamville) and Kyle Cummins (Haubstadt).
American Racing Ministries “Perseverance Awards” went to Scotty Weir (Terre Haute) and Thomas Meseraull (Putnamville and Haubstadt).
