CANYON HOSTS “FATHER’S DAY” SOUTHWEST SPRINTS SATURDAY;

JOHNSON EXTENDS LEAD WITH QUEEN CREEK WIN

Canyon Speedway Park in Peoria, Ariz. hosts the “Father’s Day Classic” this Saturday as USAC Southwest Sprint Car point leaders R.J. Johnson, Josh Pelkey and Charles Davis Jr. continue their torrid battle for the 2014 series title.

Johnson, who scored his record 14th Arizona USAC victory in Saturday’s race at Arizona Speedway in Queen Creek, has a 13-point lead over Pelkey and is 22 ahead of Davis, with 74 points available Saturday.

Johnson, of Phoenix, Ariz. wheeled the Michaels entry to Saturday’s win at Queen Creek. He chased Davis for 19 laps, then led the last 11 to beat Davis, Pelkey, Shon Deskins and Matt Rossi.

All three of the point leaders have tasted victory already this year at Canyon.
