WESTERN MIDGETS “OFF” UNTIL JULY 3 AT SANTA MARIA;

BACON GRABS TULARE 30-LAPPER

Cody Swanson of Norco, Calif. is the new leader in the 2015 Honda USAC Western Midget points after his third-place finish in last Saturday night’s 30-lap feature at Thunderbowl Raceway in Tulare, Calif. He takes a 14-point lead over defending series champion Ronnie Gardner into the next series race July 3 at Santa Maria (Calif.) Raceway.

AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Car Champion Brady Bacon of Broken Arrow, Okla. won Saturday night’s competitive feature at Tulare. He passed Trey Marcham on lap 11 and led the rest of the way in his Keith Ford Berry Back/King Racing Products machine. Richard Vander Weerd was second ahead of Swanson, Nick Chivello and Danny Faria Jr.

The victory was Bacon’s first in the Western Midget series.

Vander Weerd already has a Santa Maria victory under his belt, having won the West Coast Sprint race there April 11.
