CUMMINS LEADS SMACKDOWN IX POINTS ENTERING FRIDAY

Kokomo, Indiana (August 28, 2020)………By virtue of Kyle Cummins’ victory in Thursday night’s USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car feature at Kokomo (Ind.) Speedway, the Princeton, Ind. driver leads the Sprint Car Smackdown IX point standings entering the second of three consecutive nights of racing at the quarter-mile dirt oval on Friday night, August 28.

Cummins leads by six points over second place finisher Brady Bacon (Broken Arrow, Okla.).  Robert Ballou runs 3rd, 11 points out of the lead, while 5th place finisher Thomas Meseraull (San Jose, Calif.) reside 4th in the standings, 18 behind the leader.  Buddy Kofoid (Penngrove, Calif.), in his first career USAC AMSOIL National Sprint Car start, finished 4th which has him 5th (-19) in the Smackdown standings.

Points are accumulated throughout qualifying, the prelim events and the feature.  Drivers who are in the top-8 of the standings following Friday’s second round of Smackdown IX will clinch an automatic starting spot in Saturday’s $11,000-to-win feature event.

Those same eight drivers will participate in the B & W Auto Mart “King of the Hill” on Saturday night at Kokomo, which pits eight total cars in a tournament, bracket style format.  Two cars will face off against each other at a time for three laps, carving the field down to the final two drivers who’ll duke it out for a chance to win the pole position for Saturday’s A-Main and a check for $418.29 from B & W for their efforts.

The remaining seven cars will slot in the remaining seven starting positions in the first four rows of Saturday’s feature based on how far they advanced in “King of the Hill.”

On Friday night of Smackdown IX, front and pit gates open at 3pm ET, drivers meeting at 6pm and cars on track at 6:30pm.  On Saturday night, front and pit gates open at 3pm ET, drivers meeting at 5:30pm and cars on track at 6pm.  BOSS Sprint Cars join the event card for the Saturday night program.

Adult general admission tickets are $25, children age 12 and under free in general admission seats only.  Pit passes are $35.  3-day advance reserved tickets are $85 and can be purchased at the ticket window on race night. Spectator tickets available at the gate. Pit passes available at www.usactickets.com.
