Madison, Illinois (August 19, 2022)………Kody Swanson set a new world speed record for a traditional USAC Silver Crown car during Friday afternoon’s Fatheadz Eyewear Qualifying session at World Wide Technology Raceway in Madison, Ill.

The Kingsburg, California native’s time of 30.675 around the 1.25-mile paved oval translates to 146.699 mph, eclipsing the former speed record for a traditional Silver Crown car set by himself in 2012 at Iowa Speedway at 146.212 mph.

The term “traditional” is used in this matter due to the utilization of a “New Generation” “Super Speedway” car that was used in competition solely during the years of 2006-07.  Aaron Pierce turned a qualifying lap of 175.012 mph in one of these cars at Homestead-Miami Speedway in 2006.

Swanson’s time was monumental in a multitude of manners.  It broke Chris Windom’s nine-year-old series track record at WWT of 31.082 seconds and 144.778 mph, set in 2013.  As a result, Swanson became the first driver to capture 40 career USAC Silver Crown pole positions.

The six-time USAC Silver Crown champion will roll from the pole position for Friday night’s OutFront 100 alongside two-time WWT Silver Crown winner Bobby Santos of Franklin, Mass. in the 22-car field.

Derek Bischak (Angola, Ind.), who was fourth overall in qualifying will start 11th in Friday night’s feature event.  Due to missing his spot in the qualifying line by more than two positions, he was allowed one timed lap and, by rule, is unable to start in the top-half of the 22-car field.

Kyle O’Gara (Beech Grove, Ind.), who was fifth in Friday morning’s practice, was unable to get on track for time trials due to a mechanical issue which dropped liquid from his car on pit lane during the session.

USAC Silver Crown final practice is set for 4:30pm with driver introductions at 8pm and the main event at 8:30pm.

Friday’s main event can be watched LIVE on FloRacing at https://bit.ly/3frPoW6.
