5-RACE “INDIANA MIDGET WEEK” OPENS AT GAS CITY WEDNESDAY

5-RACE “INDIANA MIDGET WEEK” OPENS AT GAS CITY WEDNESDAY

“Indiana Midget Week” unfolds this week at five different speedways in five nights and should be pivotal for drivers contesting the 2015 Honda USAC National Midget championship.

Wednesday night’s opener is at Gas City I-69 Speedway while Thursday’s race is at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville. Bloomington Speedway hosts Friday night’s action and Saturday’s race is at Lawrenceburg Speedway. Sunday night’s closer is at Kokomo Speedway.

Two-time “Indiana Midget Week” champion Tracy Hines (2008 and 2010) leads the standings by three points over 2012 IMW champ Darren Hagen entering the five-race series. Hines is seeking that elusive final leg of USAC’s “Triple Crown” after previously earning titles in USAC’s Silver Crown and AMSOIL National Sprint series. Hines is a six-time Midget series runner-up.

Rico Abreu won last year’s “Indiana Midget Week” title and other former champions are Christopher Bell (2013), Bryan Clauson (2009 and 2011), Brad Kuhn (2010 with Hines), Jerry Coons Jr. (2007) and Shane Cottle (2005-2006).

Forty-one previous races have produced 21 different race winners with Clauson grabbing a record eight victories.
