NATIONAL MIDGETS IDLE UNTIL AUGUST; THORSON & CLAUSON WIN AT “THE DITCH”
The USAC National Midgets are idle until an August 2 date in Nebraska, but a logjam at the top of the standings exists after a pair of races in Arkansas over the weekend.
Spencer Bayston holds a 10-point lead over Bryan Clauson in the latest tally, with Brady Bacon just 23 points out of the lead.
Bryan Clauson of Noblesville, Ind. won Saturday night’s 40-lap “40 for Shorty” feature at Riverside International Speedway in West Memphis, Ark. That victory tied Dave Darland for fifth place on USAC’s all-time list of feature winners as each now have 110 total, which includes both National and Regional races.
Clauson took the lead after Tanner Thorson came to a stop with a flat right rear on lap 29. Clauson led the final 12 laps in the Cancer Treatment Centers of America/B & H Contractors Spike/Stanton SR-11. Bacon took second ahead of Carson Macedo, Chad Boat and Shane Golobic.
Thorson, of Minden, Nev., won Friday night’s 30-lap race at West Memphis in the TRD/JBL Audio Bullet/Speedway Toyota. Macedo led the first 10 laps before yielding to Thorson, then finished second ahead of Boat, Bayston and Bacon.
Thorson and Bayston claimed ProSource fast qualifying awards while Ryan Robinson, Macedo, Clauson and Boat won heats sponsored by Simpson Race Products, Competition Suspension, Inc., Benic Enterprises and Indy Race Parts. KSE Hard Charger awards went to Golobic and Clauson.
