COONS TAKES 20-POINT LEAD TO"COPPER WORLD" FINALE

COONS TAKES 20-POINT LEAD TO"COPPER WORLD" FINALE; DARLAND NARROWS SILVER CROWN LEAD WITH"4-CROWN" VICTORY

Jerry Coons Jr. holds a 20-point lead in the latest USAC K & N Silver Crown Series standings and will try to lock up his first series crown November 6 in the"Copper World Classic" finale at Phoenix (Ariz.) International Raceway.

Coons finished third in Saturday night's 50-lap"4-Crown Nationals" at the Eldora Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio, won by his closest point pursuer, Dave Darland. Coons also won the pole for the Eldora race and led the first 17 laps before Darland took over.

Darland led the final 33 laps in his Jarvis Enterprises/Plastic Express Beast/Foxco/Chevy to score his third"4-Crown" Silver Crown win. Brian Tyler, also mathematically in the title chase, finished second, ahead of Coons, Shane Cottle and Levi Jones.

Coons and Darland finished second and fifth in last year's"Copper World Classic" while Tyler, who needs a victory at Phoenix to have any chance at the title, was 21st in last year's race.
