CONCORD FOCUS-YOUNG GUNS SERIES DEBUTS WEDNESDAY

FOCUSES ALSO EYE PUTNAMVILLE & SALT LAKE CITY

Concord (N.C.) Motorsports Park hosts the first of six consecutive Wednesday night Eastern/Carolina Ford Focus and Carolina Young Guns “doubleheader” this Wednesday. USAC Ford Focus racing also occurs this week at Lincoln Park Speedway in Putnamville, Ind. (Midwest) and Salt Lake City, Utah (Western/Utah), both Saturday night.

Scott Hunter of Concord tops the standings in both the Eastern and Carolina Ford Focus series following his victory in Saturday night’s 30-lap Midwest/Eastern race at the Columbus (Ohio) Motor Speedway. Hunter led all 30 laps in his Brown & Miller Racing Solutions/Kenny’s Components Ascot, beating Kyle Hamilton, Tyler Cottongim, Jake Blackhurst and Joe Liguori to the checkered flag. Nick Drake posted the fastest qualifying time.

Liguori, of Tampa, Fla., wheeled the John Givens C & R Racing/Pit Stop Bar-B-Q Beast to victory in Friday night’s 30-lap USAC Midwest/Eastern Ford Focus feature at Kil-Kare Speedway. He took the lead from Toby Alfrey on lap 24 and led the rest of the way to beat Midwest point leader Blackhurst, Hamilton, fast qualifier Hunter and Kyle O’Gara.

Cody Gerhardt of Madera, Calif. and Cody Thompson of Fremont, Calif. grabbed USAC Ford Focus and Young Guns victories during the USAC “quadrupleheader” at Stockton 99 Speedway Saturday night. Gerhardt passed Garrett Peterson on lap 27 of the 30-lap Focus race and led the final four laps to beat Cody Thompson, Tim Skoglund, Keegan Walmer and fast qualifier Peterson. Thompson won the 25-lap Young Guns feature, leading all but the first two laps after passing Brandon White on lap three. Keegan Walmer finished second ahead of Courtney Atkinson and White.

Gerhardt leads the Western Ford Focus standings and Michael Daniels of Magna, Utah sits atop the Utah standings entering Saturday’s race at Salt Lake City.
