FOCUSES, YOUNG GUNS HEAD FOR CONCORD, IRWINDALE

CUSTER, HUNTER, LAMB, IRVAN, PETERSON, KOSTECKI LAND WINS

 


USAC’s Ford Focus and Focus Young Guns compete this week in North Carolina and California. The Eastern series are at Concord (N.C.) Motor Speedway Wednesday night, while the Western competitors take to the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale, Calif. Saturday.


 


Rain forced cancellation of last Saturday’s scheduled USAC Mopar D1 Midget, Midwest Ford Focus and Midwest Focus Young races at the Kalamazoo (Mich.) Speedway.


 


Cole Custer of Kannapolis, N.C. scored three USAC feature wins Monday night at East Lincoln Speedway. He led all 30 laps of the second Eastern Ford Focus race and all 20 laps of both Eastern Focus Young Races. Scott Hunter of Concord, N.C. led all 30 laps of the opening Eastern Ford Focus race. Trailing Hunter were Nick Drake, Custer, Rick Fedrizzi and Tyler Corriher. Finishing behind Custer in the Ford Focus race were Hunter, Drake, Ross Rankine and Fedrizzi. Jared Irvan finished second in both Focus Young Guns features.


 


Chris Lamb of Colfax, N.C. and Jared Irvan of Midland, N.C. were the winners in USAC Ford Focus racing action Wednesday night at Concord Motor Speedway. Lamb led all 75 laps of the Eastern Ford Focus race to beat Nick Drake, Cole Custer, Tyler Corriher and Nic Davidson. Irvan led all 35 laps of the Focus Young Guns feature to beat Trey Hutchens and Mikell McGee.


 


Garrett Peterson and Brodie Kostecki were the big winners Saturday night at Las Vegas Motor Speedway’s Bullring in USAC racing action. Peterson, of West Sacramento, Calif. won the second 30-lap Western/Utah Ford Focus feature, while Kostecki, of Roseville, Calif., won the first 30-lap Ford Focus feature and both 20-lap Focus Young Guns main events. Kostecki led all 30 laps of the Ford Focus opener to beat Keegan Walmer, Peterson, Tanner Long and Jessica Clark. Shawn Buckley, Jarid Blondel and Jim Waters led the first four laps of the second race before Peterson took over on lap five and led the rest of the way to beat Kostecki, Brandon White, Waters and Long. Trailing Kostecki in the first Focus Young Guns feature were Trevor Hunt, James Eden, Christine Breckenridge and Marina Turner. In the second 20-lapper, Walmer took second ahead of Hunt, Eden and Breckenridge.
