SPRINTS EYE ANDERSON'S "NIEBEL CLASSIC" MAY 2

DARLAND, WISE SCORE WINS, WEATHER POSTPONES “VOGLER CLASSIC”

USAC National Sprint Car point leader Dave Darland and 2006 series champion Josh Wise scored feature wins last weekend and Darland takes a 33-point lead over Jesse Hockett into the May 2 “Glen Niebel Classic” at the Anderson (Ind.) Speedway.

Sunday's scheduled "Rich Vogler Classic" USAC National Sprint race at the Winchester (Ind.) Speedway was postponed due to inclement weather forecast for the Midwest. The "Rich Vogler Classic" will now be held at Winchester on July 2. The postponement was made to allow race teams and fans to alter their travel plans in the interest of curtailing costs during this economically-challenging time.

Wise, of Riverside, Calif., led the final eight laps to win Saturday night’s 30-lap race at the Lawrenceburg (Ind.) Speedway. Wise took the lead from Brad Sweet exiting the second turn on lap 23 in his Indiana Underground Construction Maxim/Chevy. Levi Jones grabbed second from Sweet on the final lap, with Chad Boat and Darland rounding out the “top five” at the checkered flag. Wise was also Saturday’s fastest qualifier.

Darland, of Lincoln, Ind., passed Jesse Hockett in traffic on the 28th lap and led the final three laps in his Rotondo Weirich/Benic Enterprises Maxim/Chevy to win Friday night's 30-lap feature at the Gas City (Ind.) I-69 Speedway. Jones finished second ahead of Hockett, Shane Cottle and Chris Windom. Wise led the first three laps, then Hockett led the next 24 before yielding to Darland. Bryan Clauson was the fastest qualifier at Gas City but did not finish the feature event.

The May 2 Anderson race will mark the 10th running of the “Glen Niebel Classic” honoring the late USAC car owner who won the 1995 USAC National Sprint car owner’s championship.
