WESTERN, ROCKY MOUNTAIN SPRINTS "OFF" THIS WEEK

HUNT WINS SALT LAKE CITY 50-LAPPER

The USAC AMSOIL Western and Young Automotive Rocky Mountain Sprint Car series are on “hiatus” this week preparing for their next events. The Western series resumes June 26 at the Orange Show Speedway in San Bernardino, Calif., while the Rocky Mountain series returns to Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City, Utah June 12.

Tony Hunt of Lincoln, Calif. and Jimmy Wysong of South Jordan, Utah are the respective series point leaders after a 1-2 finish in Monday night’s 50-lap feature at the RMR Utah oval.

Hunt caught Wysong on lap 36 and led the final 15 laps in his Metal Works/Red Line Oil Beast/Chevy to beat Wysong, Jim Waters, Ryan Burdett and Kody Swanson. Wysong was the night’s fastest qualifier and passed early leader Mel Andrus on lap seven for the led. He then led the next 29 laps before yielding to Hunt.

Monday night’s race was part of the track’s Young Chevrolet 100 program.
