SPRINTS HIT PAVEMENT & DIRT OVALS THIS WEEK

“THURSDAY NIGHT THUNDER” & “JIM HURTUBISE CLASSIC” ON TAP

USAC’s AMSOIL Pavement and National Sprint Car Series resume this week, with “Thursday Night Thunder” on tap at Lucas Oil Raceway in Indianapolis, Ind. and the “Jim Hurtubise Classic” Saturday night at the Terre Haute (Ind.) Action Track.

Defending AMSOIL National Champ Levi Jones holds a 19-point lead over Chris Windom entering Saturday’s Terre Haute race, while Bobby Santos III sits atop the USAC Pavement Sprint points going into Thursday’s race in Indianapolis.

Santos has two victories and two fourths on the pavement this season, including the most recent race at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis. Tanner Swanson, who trails Santos by just six points, has three podium finishes so far, including a second and a third at the Indianapolis oval.

Saturday’s race at Terre Haute honors one of USAC’s most accomplished Sprint car drivers ever. Hurtubise logged five consecutive feature victories at the Action Track between 1960 and 1962, a feat which has never been repeated.

Chris Windom won the “Tony Hulman Classic” at Terre Haute in July, while this year’s winners at Lucas Oil Raceway at Indianapolis have been Kody Swanson and Santos.
