PEORIA'S "WINTER CHALLENGE" RESUMES WED.-FRI.-SAT.

PEORIA’S “WINTER CHALLENGE” RESUMES WED.-FRI.-SAT.;

RAIN & WET GROUNDS FORCE “TRIPLE” CANCELLATION

Persistent rains in central Arizona this past weekend forced cancellation of all three nights of the opening weekend of Canyon Speedway Park’s “Winter Challenge.” The event continues this coming week at the 3/8-mile dirt oval in Peoria, Ariz.

Involving USAC West Coast and Southwest Sprint cars, the series return to Peoria Wednesday night, then faces Friday and Saturday races, with Saturday’s finale offering both afternoon and evening events to conclude with a unique “doubleheader.”

Following Friday and Saturday rains, the wet grounds left the oval un-raceable, forcing Sunday’s cancellation.

Defending USAC National Drivers Champion and defending AMSOIL USAC National Sprint Car Champion Bryan Clauson was in the field for the weekend’s events at Peoria, as were defending USAC West Coast Champion Bud Kaeding and Charles Davis Jr., who needs two victories to catch Dave Steele and A.J. Foyt as the winningest drivers in Arizona’s USAC history.
