$10,000-TO-WIN AT THE "BURG," "OLDTIMERS WEEKEND" AT WINCHESTER

COONS GETS HOFFMAN’S 74TH IN ELDORA’S “4-CROWN”

Only 15 points separate Levi Jones and Dave Darland in the battle for the 2009 USAC National Sprint Car Championship! They will battle twice this weekend in the final Midwest races on the calendar, both in Indiana.

Friday night’s “Fall Nationals” at the Lawrenceburg Speedway awards the winner a $10,000 paycheck, while Sunday’s “Oldtimers Weekend” showcase at the Winchester Speedway offers a 40-lap feature on the half-mile highbanks.

Jerry Coons Jr. of Tucson, Ariz. led all 30 laps to win Saturday night’s Team Chevy “4-Crown Nationals” USAC National Sprint race at the Eldora Speedway. The win in the Hoffman Auto Racing F5/Gaerte was a record 74th for the team in USAC Sprint racing. Tracy Hines finished second ahead of Scotty Weir, Darland and Brad Sweet.

Darland’s finish sliced Jones’ point lead to 15 as Jones finished seventh in Saturday’s feature. Hines was the fastest qualifier.

Coons is among favorites for Friday’s Lawrenceburg shootout, having won a similar $10-000-to-win race there in August. Sunday’s Winchester classic continues a great tradition at the track where Hines won the “Rich Vogler Classic” in July.

Lawrenceburg and Winchester are two of USAC’s most historic ovals. The Lawrenceburg track has hosted USAC racing since 1961, while Winchester hosted its first USAC race back in 1956. Darland and Jon Stanbrough have each scored a record five USAC wins at the “Burg,” while Pancho Carter remains the leading winner at Winchester with his 12 wins there.
