Placerville, California (September 7, 2024)………When the door is left open, you’ve got to step through.
That’s the tactic Cade Lewis took when presented the opportunity during the early stages of Saturday night’s Avanti Windows & Doors USAC Western States Midget feature at California’s Placerville Speedway.
The fifth-starting Lewis (Bakersfield, Calif.) moved swiftly through the field and found himself right within arms reach of T.J. Smith who led the opening seven circuits.
When Smith swung wide off the bottom of turn four on the eighth lap, Lewis flashed under Smith to take over the lead, and was never challenged for the remaining 23 laps en route to a 1.531 second of victory in his Dean Alexander owned machine. The victory was the fourth of Lewis’ career with the series.
Tanner Carrick (Lincoln, Calif.) raced around the outside of Smith for the second spot on lap 11 and went on to finish as the runner-up. Smith took third in the 30-lap main event while fellow series Rookies Brandon Wiley and Drake Edwards rounded out the top-five.
