NW IGNITES RETURN TO SKAGIT SATURDAY

By Carla Stewart

Alger, WA........This weekend marks the return of the NW USAC Ignite Midget Series to Skagit Speedway. This will be the 3rd of 4 scheduled races in this the inagural season at Skagit leading to a more ambitious schedule in the 2013 Season.

The NW USAC Ignite Midgets have drivers spanning many demographics including male, female, young and old.  Drivers as young as 12 years old can compete in this series, our youngest drivers to date are Hannah Lindquist and Chase Goetz. Both of these racers are 14 years old and will be competing at Skagit this weekend.  Hannah set fast time at our last event, and Chase is currently tied for 2nd place in the USAC's NW Regional point standings. Both will be in action this weekend driving the 3h and 91cars, respectively.

Leading Skagit Speedway’s USAC Midget points is Jared Peterson.  Peterson has won both events held at the track so far this year including a thrilling photo finish between he and a hard charging Garret Johnson on May 26th. Peterson left no doubt of whom the winner was with a decisive victory on June 9th. As of press time Skagit Speedway track standings for the USAC Midgets were not available.

The final race of this inaugural Skagit season will be September 1st, when the midgets are scheduled as the support division for the World of Outlaws. As well as battling for a Skagit Speedway title, racers are competing regionally for an invitation to the USAC "Night of Champions" banquet held in Indianapolis in December.  The Top 3 Regional finishers are invited to this prestigious event where they are recognized for their achievements along with the national champions in the USAC National Midget, Sprint and Silver Crown divisions as well as the USAC National Driver of the Year.  Jared Peterson currently leads the NW Region with a great battle for second featuring a tie between Garrett Johnson and Goetz.

Leading the Grays Harbor NW USAC Ignite Midget Series is Jeremy Miller as he leads by 7 points over Jared Peterson who is tied with Garret Johnson, rounding out the top 5 are Michael Millard, and Chase Goetz.

The NW USAC Ignite Midget Series will be visiting Sunset Speedway in Banks Oregon on August 11th, and Grays Harbor Raceway on August 25th before they return to Skagit to crown the Skagit Midget series champion on Labor Day weekend with the Outlaws.
