HPD MIDGETS AT GAS CITY & LAS VEGAS;

HUNTER #1 AT SHENANDOAH

USAC’s Midwest and Western HPD Midget Series resume action this weekend. The Midwest series visits Gas City (Ind.) I-69 Speedway Friday, while the Western participants will compete at the Las Vegas (Nev.) Motor Speedway Bullring Saturday.

Scott Hunter of Wald Lake, Mich. is the new point leader in USAC’s Eastern HPD Midget Series after winning Saturday night’s 30-lap feature at Shenandoah Speedway. He passed Tyler Corriher on lap 21 and led the rest of the way to beat fast qualifier Blaine Leydig, Chris Lamb, Calvin Carroll and Jessica Bean. Corriher led the first 20 laps. Hunter is now two laps ahead of Lamb entering a May 9 race at Altamahaw, N.C.

Patrick Bruns leads the Midwest series to Gas City for the first of five races at the quarter-mile dirt oval. Shawn Buckley sits atop the Western series as it prepares for the second of nine 2014 Las Vegas appearances. Lady driver Christine Breckenridge won there on April 5.
