DMA TO ALBANY-SARATOGA FRI.; IMRA AT 34 RACEWAY SAT.; BAUGH #1 AT SPOON RIVER; PIERSON BACK ON TOP AT BEAR RIDGE
The USAC DMA Midgets head to Friday’s race at Albany-Saratoga Speedway in Malta, N.Y. while the USAC IMRA Midgets return to 34 Raceway in Burlington, Iowa for a Saturday race.
Josh Sunn (DMA) and Jeff Mallonee (IMRA) are the respective series point leaders entering this week’s races.
Defending USAC DMA Midget Champion Adam Pierson of Bradford, Vt. now trails Sunn by just four points in the standings after beating Sunn to the checkered flag Saturday night at Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford. Pierson passed Kevin Chaffee on lap 11 and led the final 10 laps to beat Sunn, Adam Whitney, Jeff Horn and Robert Tucker on “Woodsville Guaranty Savings Bank Night.”
Andy Baugh of Mason City, Ill. led the last 17 laps of Saturday night’s 20-lap USAC IMRA Midget feature at Spoon River Speedway in Canton, Ill. on “Kids Bicycle Races Night.” He passed Austin Archdale on lap four and led the rest of the way to beat Mitchell Davis, Archdale, Brent Burrows and Chase McDermand. Series point leader Mallonee was 15th at Spoon River.
Rain forced cancellation of last Saturday’s scheduled USAC Midwest Thunder Midget race at Waynesfield (Ohio) Raceway Park. The series now gears up for a June 18 appearance at Montpelier (Ind.) Motor Speedway.
