ALBANY-SARATOGA & SPOON RIVER HOST SPEED2S THIS WEEK
Two venues host USAC Speed2 Midget racing this week. The Laquerre’s Sports DMA series visits Albany-Saratoga Speedway in Malta, N.Y. Friday and the Engler IMRA series returns to Spoon River Speedway in Canton, Ill. Saturday.
Stratton Briggs of Anna, Ohio led all 20 laps to win Saturday night’s USAC Midwest Thunder Speed2 Midget race at Montpelier (Ind.) Motor Speedway. Alex Watson took second ahead of Cory Guingrich, series leader Aaron Leffel and Jon Steed. The series resumes September 1 at Montpelier.
Adam Lemke of Hollister. Calif. extended his lead in the USAC Western Speed2 Midget overall and pavement standings after winning Saturday night’s 30-lap feature at Madera (Calif.) Speedway. Joey Iest was second ahead of Johnny Nichols, Ethan Lesser and Bryant Bell. Lesser was making his first start of the year after taking a hiatus from the series. The Western Dirt series competes September 7 at The Dirt Track at Kern County Raceway Park in Bakersfield, Calif.
Chris Lamb of Colfax, N.C. captured Saturday night’s 35-lap “Summer Jam” USAC Eastern Speed2 feature at Carteret County Speedway in Swansboro, N.C. Nolan Allison was second, followed by Connor Gross, fast qualifier Jessica Bean and Neal Allison. The next Eastern event is August 25 at Dillon, S.C.
Will Hull of Plainfield, Vt. scored his fourth victory of the 2018 USAC Laquerre’s Sports DMA Speed2 Midget campaign Saturday night, taking the 25-lapper at Bear Ridge Speedway in Bradford, Vt. Adam Whitney finished second ahead of Derek O’Hearn, Joe Krawiec and Seth Carlson. Krawiec led three laps and Hull led the rest.
Shane Morgan of Cree Coeur, Ill. won Saturday night’s 20-lap Engler USAC IMRA Speed2 Midget race at Spoon River Speedway in Canton, Ill. Completing the “top-five” were Kurt Mueller, Brent Burrows, Dave Baugh and Broc Hunnell. Sunday night’s race at Quincy (Ill.) Raceways was cancelled.
