SILVER CROWN EYES “VOGLER/USAC HALL OF FAME CLASSIC” AT LOR; TANNER SWANSON WINS AT GATEWAY

Chris Windom is the new leader of the USAC Silver Crown Championship series standings, which now gears up for the July 21 “Rich Vogler/USAC Hall of Fame Classic” at Lucas Oil Raceway in Brownsburg, Ind.

Windom led 25 laps and finished second in Saturday’s Vatterott College “Silver Crown Showdown” at Gateway Motorsports Park in Madison, Ill. That boosted him past defending series champion Kody Swanson in the standings and he now takes an 11-point lead over Kody into the July 21 race. Twelve new members will be enshrined into USAC’s Hall of Fame during special ceremonies prior to the July 21 race.

Tanner Swanson of Kingsburg, Calif. won the ProSource pole at Gateway and led 35 laps, including the last 34 on his way to victory in his Bowman Properties/Bowman-Elmore Racing Beast/Kistler Chevy. His brother, Kody, was the victim of a struck throttle and ended up in the first-turn wall on lap 11. He escaped injury in the accident.

Swanson was trailed at the checkered flag by Windom, Austin Nemire, David Byrne and Joe Liguori. Liguori earned the race’s KSE Racing Products Hard Charger Award for his charge from his ninth-place start.

Tanner will carry the favorite’s role to Lucas Oil after winning the May 26 “Carb Night Classic” at the .686-mile paved oval.
