FRANKOSKI TAKES CAROLINA TITLE, COOMES ALSO WINS AT CONCORD; ROMANO EXTENDS LEAD WITH MADERA VICTORY

Kyle Edwards of Fountain View, Calif. faces the next-to-last step toward the 2009 USAC Junior Ford Focus title this Saturday when he competes at the Ventura (Calif.) Raceway. He’s already won three feature events this year, including one at Ventura, and leads runner-up Andrew Murray by 124 points.

Jeremy Frankoski of Huntersville, N.C. is the 2009 USAC Carolina Ford Focus Champion following Saturday night’s series finales at Concord Motorsports Park where he won the first 40-lap feature, then took sixth in the 40-lap nightcap. Eric Coomes of Concord won the second 40-lap race, passing Joe Liguori on lap 18 and leading the rest of the way. Frankoski led all 40 laps of the opener to beat Scott Hunter, Coomes, Steven Intravaia and Tyler Cottongim. Coomes, the fastest qualifier, was trailed by Liguori, Intravaia, Cottongim and Chris Lamb in the finale. Brendan Bock of Franklin, N.Y. also ran a number of exhibition laps in his Junior Ford Focus during the night’s racing action.

USAC California Pavement Ford Focus Series point leader Nik Romano of Atherton, Calif. won Saturday night’s 30-lap feature at Madera Speedway. He beat Keegan Walmer, Zach Stout, Mindy McCord and fast qualifier Cody Gerhardt to the checkered flag. Gerhardt was the night’s fastest qualifier.

The 2009 USAC California Pavement Ford Focus championship concludes November 26 as part of the Toyota Speedway at Irwindale’s (Calif.) “Turkey Night Grand Prix” program.
