HANFORD HOSTS FOCUSES; UTAH SERIES CONCLUDES AT RMR

LIGUORI TAKES MORRIS & UMARA TITLE; COOMES, DANIELS & EDWARDS ALSO SCORE


USAC Ford Focus competition continues this week with participants in the California Dirt, Utah and Junior series all in action.


 


Brody Roa of Buena Park, Calif. sits atop the California Dirt series, which visits Kings Speedway in Hanford Saturday. Kipp Posey of Lehi, Utah leads the Utah series into its 2009 finale Saturday at Rocky Mountain Raceways in Salt Lake City. Kyle Edwards of Fountain Valley is the leader in the Junior series which also continues Saturday at Hanford.


 


Edwards led all 20 laps to win Saturday night’s Junior Focus feature event at Ventura (Calif.) Raceway. Casey Martinez finished second ahead of Tanner Kershaw, Andrew Murray and Dennis Simunovich.


 


Eric Coomes of Concord, N.C. won Saturday night’s 35-lap USAC Carolina Ford Focus feature at Hickory (N.C.) Motor Speedway, leading the final 23 laps after passing Steven Intravaia on lap 13. Intravaia officially finished second ahead of Shane MacMillan, Chris Lamb and Justin Hommel. Series point leader Jeremy Frankoski posted the fastest qualifying time but his car failed the post-race technical inspection. The series continues September 26 at Dillon (S.C.) Motor Speedway.


 


Mike Daniels of Magna, Utah earned his second USAC Utah Ford Focus win Saturday night at Rocky Mountain Raceways, passing Gregg Fuette on lap nine and leading the rest of the way to win the 25-lapper. Posey finished second ahead of Fuette, fast qualifier Chuck Groat and Bob Brewer. The Utah series has a Monday (September 7) race at RMR before its September 12 finale.


 


Joe Liguori of Tampa, Fla. is the 2009 USAC/UMARA Ford Focus Champion, winning the series finale Saturday night at Grundy County Speedway in Morris, Ill. Liguori passed Tyler Cottongim on the white-flag lap and led to the checkered in his C & R Racing Beast to beat Tyler Trainor, Zach Kanizer, Cottongim and Jimmy Simpson. The victory also enhanced Liguori’s point lead in the USAC Midwest Ford Focus standings. The Midwest series concludes September 19 at Columbus (Ohio) Motor Speedway.
